Half Acre Brewing Co Vallejo IPA

It’s been a while since I’ve had a Vallejo from Half Acre. This is their Summer IPA and it is a good one! Vallejo pours a pale golden color, has a aroma to me of a dank, piney combination. The taste is the same, it’s a good combination of flavors, but for me, I get mostly pine with a little grapefruit. There is good carbonation here but not over the top, Vallejo finishes a bit dry with a little bitterness on the back end. I’m drinking this out of a can and was canned 8 days before I’m drinking this. Vallejo is a 6.7 % ABV West Coast IPA and is a good one, I’m glad it’s back for the Summer!

Pipeworks Brewing Alla Salute

I’m a sucker for an Italian Pilsner so when I saw that Pipeworks was putting one out in collaboration with famed Chicago grocer and sandwich royalty J.P. Graziano, I had to grab this one! Alla Salute does not disappoint. It has a nice pale gold color, good aroma, and the taste is terrific. It’s slightly more malt forward than other Italian Pilsners but balances out nicely at the end with the hops. Alla Salute is nicely carbonated and has a clean finish that makes me want more! I grabbed this directly from Pipeworks and according to their website it is sold out, so hopefully you can find this one around town and if you see it, pick it up! I only wish I had a damn sandwich to go with Alla Salute!

There will be a new episode of the podcast out tomorrow. To catch up on past shows…..

Uncle John’s Melded

Tonight I’m having a cider from Uncle John’s called Melded. On the latest episode of the podcast, Cider Brian of Chicago was discussing this one in detail and he sold me on this! Melded is a terrific cider that has a wonderful flavor from the blend of American, French, and English cider apples. It has a nice tart bite to it, but it is not overwhelming at all, it balances well with the sweetness from the apples. Melded is lightly carbonated and has a good dry finish. If you are looking for a change of pace from a beer, I would definitely recommend this one. It’s sold in 500ML bottles with an ABV of 6.5 % and is around $6. I want to thank Brian for suggesting Melded, it’s a winner! To hear Brian and other amazing people from around the world talk about their Beer In Front, check out the latest episode of the podcast below or wherever you listen.

Vaguely Stylish Argyle Midwest Coast

Tonight I’m having a West Coast IPA from Midwest Coast in Chicago called Vaguely Stylish Argyle. This is an excellent beer! It has a wonderful color, the aroma is spot on as well. The taste is terrific! They use Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook hops which really blend well with the malts here for a great tasting beer. Argyle has 62 IBU so it is a throwback to the IPA’s of old and I’m kicking myself for not trying their beers before. Thanks to Virginia from Beermiscuous for the recommendation!

The can design is brilliant as well, I love the matte black Argyle pattern and the color selection with the red, Chicago blue, and copper really pop. I love how they put on the back the hop percentage they used for this one.

The latest episode of the podcast is out with a Rauchbier from Dovetail and a chat with Curt from the Half Hour Bros.

Casa Humilde Mangazo

I know I said that I was going to stop the Hazy IPA’s for a while, but one of my favorite breweries, Casa Humilde released their Mangazo one with Mango so my arm was twisted….

Mangazo is a Hazy IPA with Citra and Amarillo hops with added Mango. This is a 7.5% beer that is another solid effort from Casa Humilde! It looks like an orange juice pouring with a very hazy orange/golden color. The aroma for me is all mango but the taste is excellent. Really nice mango flavor along with the citrus from the Citra and Amarillo hops, there is a nice bitterness to this that I wasn’t expecting in a Hazy IPA. For me, this drinks more like an IPA than a Hazy, which isn’t always a bad thing. Casa Humilde keeps making solid beers and like I mentioned before, they are one of my favorite Chicago breweries. Whatever they release, I’m going to try it!

New episode of the podcast will drop Wednesday with Part 1 of my interview with Lauren from the Beer’d Al Podcast. This was so much fun, we had a great time talking for both of our shows! Part 2 will come out Friday!
