What do you do on a day where it’s pushing 90 degrees and humid? Bust open a barrel aged! Tonight I’m having the 2020 Imperial Pajamas from Begyle Brewing. This is an oatmeal stout that’s barrel aged in Sagamore Spirit Rye Whiskey barrels and has maple and cinnamon added to it. This one does not disappoint. Begyle won a 2019 GABF Gold Medal for Imperial Pajamas in the coveted Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Stout category so they know how to knock out a world class stout.

This is a 13.2% ABV stout that has a nice color, the aroma hits you with the rye whiskey and the maple. For me, the combination was almost biscotti like which I enjoyed a lot. The taste though was a plethora of flavors highlighted by the cinnamon. That hit me up front followed by the maple which really was a nice combination. As it warmed a bit, I picked up some chocolate notes as well. For me, and what do I know, but the carbonation could have been a tick higher but that’s just me. The bottle says that is has an extra layer of coziness and I’m gonna kick up the AC tonight and sleep well with my Flannel Pajamas. I love this beer and am a Jagoff for not buying more than one bottle!

Begyle is located at 1800 W. Cuyler Ave in Chicago on the famed Malt Row and is a must stop for those who love beer!
